Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has declared that a reported attack by Ukraine on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea will not go unanswered. The minister emphasized that Tehran views the incident as a serious violation of maritime security.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media reports, the minister announced this stance through his official social media account.
Araghchi stated that he has held urgent telephone conversations regarding the matter with Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, as well as Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
According to the minister, the details of the alleged attack and its potential regional consequences were the primary focus of these diplomatic discussions. The Caspian Sea, a critical body of water bordered by Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan, is a vital hub for energy transit and regional trade, making security incidents in the area a matter of significant international concern.
