Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has warned that the economic impact of the conflict in the Middle East, exacerbated by military strikes involving Israel and Iran, will be felt in the country for months to come.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media outlets, that the Prime Minister issued a stark warning regarding the disruption of supply chains and the subsequent rise in fuel prices.
Highlighting that the war in the Middle East has led to a significant surge in global oil prices, Albanese noted that although Australia is not directly involved in the hostilities, Australian citizens are facing the burden of higher costs. "The reality is that the economic shock created by this war will be with us for months," Albanese stated during his address.
The Prime Minister further noted that the National Cabinet approved a "National Fuel Security Plan" on March 30, which included a 50% reduction in the fuel excise tax to mitigate the impact on consumers. These measures come as global energy markets remain volatile due to geopolitical instability in key oil-producing regions. Such economic shocks typically affect transport costs and inflation rates globally, prompting governments to implement strategic reserves and fiscal adjustments to protect domestic economies from external supply chain vulnerabilities.
