Azerbaijan's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has conducted a series of operations resulting in the seizure of a significant cache of illegal weapons across Baku and various regions of the country. During the recent measures, police officers confiscated 13 assault rifles, one pistol, two grenades, four rifles, nine ammunition magazines, and 418 rounds of various calibers.
The MIA Press Service told Operative Information Center-OMM that the illegal possession and transportation of firearms and ammunition carry serious criminal liability under the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Officials emphasized that individuals who voluntarily surrender such items to the authorities are exempted from legal responsibility.
"Citizens are advised to immediately inform police authorities about unused or illegally stored weapons and ammunition. This is crucial both for avoiding legal consequences and for contributing to public safety," the ministry stated, adding that preventive measures and operations to detect illegal weaponry are ongoing.
These efforts are part of Azerbaijan's broader strategy to maintain public order and ensure the safety of its citizens. The MIA regularly conducts such awareness campaigns and operational activities to reduce the number of unregistered firearms in circulation. By encouraging voluntary surrender, the government aims to prevent potential crimes and accidents associated with the mishandling of illegal weapons, reinforcing the rule of law and stability within the country.
