A criminal case has been initiated following the intentional destruction and damage of ancient rock formations within the protected reserve area in the Buzovna settlement of Baku's Khazar district. The investigation was launched based on reports of environmental violations in the coastal region.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) told Operative Information Center-OMM that police officers identified and halted the illegal activities on March 23. Investigations revealed that the unauthorized work was organized by Alesger Jafarov (born 1978), while the heavy machinery used to uproot and displace the rocks was operated by Tabriz Orujov (born 1985).
The Investigation Department of the Khazar District Police Department has opened a criminal case under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. Alesger Jafarov has been brought to justice as a primary suspect in the case, and investigative measures are currently ongoing to determine the full extent of the environmental impact.
The Buzovna rocks are considered a significant natural and historical landmark on the Absheron Peninsula, often protected due to their unique geological formations and proximity to the Caspian Sea. In recent years, Azerbaijani authorities have intensified efforts to prevent illegal land seizures and the destruction of natural heritage sites in coastal areas to ensure the preservation of the country's ecological landscape.
