NATO ölkələri üçün yeni çıxış yolu "KAAN" ola bilər?

Amidst growing security concerns in Europe, the demand for next-generation fighter jets among NATO member states has returned to the forefront of the defense agenda. Experts suggest that Turkey's national combat aircraft project, "KAAN," could serve as a significant alternative for the alliance.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and tensions in the Middle East have compelled European nations to re-evaluate their defense policies. It has been noted that several joint defense projects pursued over many years have failed to yield the expected results.

According to the information, Germany and France have halted their joint next-generation fighter jet program, and a 9-billion-euro naval vessel project between Germany and the Netherlands did not materialize. Furthermore, it has been noted that the currently utilized 4.5-generation "Eurofighter" jets may not fully meet the requirements of future combat environments.

Additionally, while efforts to develop 6th-generation fighter jets in Europe are ongoing, political disagreements, financial constraints, and a shortage of qualified personnel are reportedly hindering progress.

The article highlights that currently, the only NATO members possessing 5th-generation fighter jets are the United States and Turkey. It is noted that due to the high operational costs and technical issues associated with US-made F-35 aircraft, some nations have begun to seek alternative platforms. In this context, the "KAAN" project, developed through Turkey's national capabilities, is gaining attention for its flexible integration capabilities and potential for cooperation with allies.

Experts suggest that it is possible the "KAAN" project could become a key topic of discussion at the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara on July 7-8.

Context: The KAAN project represents a major milestone in Turkey's defense industry, aiming to reduce dependence on foreign military technology. As NATO continues to modernize its air fleets, the emergence of indigenous platforms like KAAN offers member states additional strategic options for maintaining regional security and interoperability within the alliance framework.
