Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held a telephone conversation with Antonio Tajani, Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
This was reported to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the call, the parties discussed the current state and future prospects of the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Italy. The ministers expressed satisfaction with the intensive nature of the high-level political dialogue between the two nations. In this context, they highlighted the significance of the state visit of Italian President Sergio Mattarella to Azerbaijan last autumn, the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in January, and the visit of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Azerbaijan in May, noting that these events demonstrate the strategic essence of bilateral relations and the dynamic development of cooperation based on mutual trust.
The sides emphasized the importance of continuing political dialogue and reciprocal visits in the coming period, as well as further expanding cooperation in economic, trade, energy, transport, industrial, investment, and educational sectors. In this regard, it was noted that the Azerbaijan-Italy Business Forum, scheduled for this autumn, will serve as a crucial platform for deepening bilateral economic partnership.
The ministers also underscored the importance of the conference to be organized in September in partnership with "The European House – Ambrosetti" for the development of the economic and political dialogue between Azerbaijan and Italy.
Expressing satisfaction with the successful cooperation in the energy sector, the parties highlighted the partnership between the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the Italian company Italiana Petroli (IP), including the acquisition, as a significant aspect of bilateral economic relations. The importance of expanding mutually beneficial projects and exploring new opportunities for cooperation in the economic sphere was also noted.
During the telephone conversation, the ministers exchanged views on the post-conflict peace agenda in the region, the situation in the Middle East, and other regional security issues.
Italy remains one of Azerbaijan's primary economic and strategic partners in Europe, particularly in the energy sector, where the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) plays a critical role in ensuring European energy security by delivering Azerbaijani gas to the Italian market.
