Azerbaijan is set to host the Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons this October, continuing the nation's ongoing efforts to address the humanitarian crisis surrounding individuals who have gone missing during conflicts.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the announcement was made by Elnur Mammadov, Deputy Foreign Minister and member of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, during an international conference titled "Modern Approaches and Strengthening Cooperation in Solving the Issue of Missing Persons."
Mammadov highlighted that since 2002, Azerbaijan has consistently initiated resolutions on missing persons at the UN General Assembly, which have been adopted by consensus every two years. "The Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons, formed at Azerbaijan's initiative, has become a vital platform for drawing international attention to this humanitarian tragedy. The next international conference within the framework of the Baku Dialogue is scheduled to take place from October 7 to 10," he stated.
The issue of missing persons remains a critical humanitarian priority for Azerbaijan, particularly in the aftermath of the decades-long conflict in the Garabagh region. The Baku Dialogue serves as a multilateral forum designed to foster global collaboration, share best practices in forensic identification, and advocate for the rights of families seeking information about their missing relatives.
