The Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan has officially ratified a defense cooperation agreement between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the bill approving the "Agreement on Cooperation in the Defense Field between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia" was discussed during today's plenary session of the Milli Majlis.
The agreement, which was signed in Baku on February 27, 2024, establishes a comprehensive legal framework for bilateral military relations. According to the document, the primary objective is to strengthen ties in key areas such as military education, training, civil-military cooperation, peacekeeping and humanitarian operations, logistics, and military-technical cooperation. The Ministry of Defense of both nations has been designated as the competent authority responsible for the implementation of the pact.
This strategic move aligns with Azerbaijan's ongoing efforts to diversify its international defense partnerships and expand its diplomatic footprint in Africa. By fostering military-technical cooperation and participating in joint defense exhibitions, Azerbaijan continues to position itself as a significant contributor to international peace and stability. The ratification follows a series of high-level diplomatic engagements aimed at enhancing mutual security interests and technical exchange between Baku and Addis Ababa.
Following the discussions in the parliament, the bill was put to a vote and adopted in a single reading.
