The Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia have signed an Agreement on cooperation in the field of defense.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the document was signed by Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Ethiopia's Foreign Minister Gedion Timotheos, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.
The agreement aims to strengthen bilateral ties and establish a formal framework for security and military-technical cooperation between the two nations. This strategic move is expected to facilitate the exchange of expertise, joint training initiatives, and enhanced dialogue on regional security issues of mutual interest.
In recent years, Azerbaijan has actively expanded its diplomatic and economic footprint across the African continent, seeking new partnerships in various sectors including energy, technology, and defense. Ethiopia, as a key political hub in East Africa and the seat of the African Union, represents a significant partner for Baku in its efforts to diversify international relations and foster South-South cooperation.
