Azerbaijan is exploring the possibility of broadcasting precise time signals via the national television tower to ensure broader access to accurate time data. This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize the nation's metrological infrastructure.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the announcement was made by Shamkhal Abbasov, head of the laboratory at the Azerbaijan Metrology Institute (AzMI), which operates under the State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, during a recent training session.
Abbasov explained that while most citizens currently rely on mobile devices that automatically synchronize with international time servers via the internet, the new system would provide a more robust, localized alternative. "In the future, we plan to broadcast precise time signals directly through the television tower. Once this technology is implemented, television and radio equipment, electronic clocks, and other specialized devices will be able to receive accurate time data directly," he stated.
The development of time standards and the improvement of transmission systems are critical for strengthening Azerbaijan's national measurement infrastructure. The Azerbaijan Metrology Institute continues to work on creating new technical capabilities and modernizing existing systems to ensure high-precision timekeeping standards are maintained in line with international requirements.
