Azerbaijan's State Border Service has successfully prevented an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of narcotics into the country from the Islamic Republic of Iran. The operation was part of ongoing measures to ensure reliable protection of the state border and combat the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors.
According to information provided by the Operative Information Center-OMM, the incident occurred within the service area of the "Horadiz" border detachment of the State Border Service's Border Troops. As a result of border search and operational activities, personnel seized a total of 11 kilograms and 985 grams of narcotics, including 7 kilograms and 885 grams of heroin and 4 kilograms and 100 grams of methamphetamine. Additionally, 20 Methadone M-40 psychotropic pills were discovered and confiscated. Operational and investigative measures into the case are currently ongoing.
The Horadiz border sector is a critical zone for Azerbaijan's border security, frequently targeted by transnational criminal groups attempting to use the territory as a transit point for the "Balkan Route." Azerbaijan continues to strengthen its border infrastructure and surveillance capabilities in the liberated southern regions to curb illegal activities. The State Border Service maintains a rigorous 24-hour watch to ensure the territorial integrity and public safety of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
