The Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan has ratified an agreement with the Republic of Sudan regarding the mutual exemption of visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the draft law on the approval of the "Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Sudan on the mutual exemption of visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders" was discussed and approved during today's session of the parliament's extraordinary session.
Presenting the draft law, Samad Seyidov, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on International Relations and Inter-Parliamentary Ties, emphasized that Azerbaijan is currently increasing its diplomatic engagement across the African continent, marking a significant development in the country's foreign policy.
"Citizens holding diplomatic and service passports can currently travel freely to 87 countries, while those with ordinary passports have visa-free access to 22 countries. With the ratification of this agreement, Sudan is now added to this list," Seyidov stated. Following the discussion, the bill was put to a vote and adopted in one reading.
This legislative move reflects Azerbaijan's broader strategy to strengthen bilateral ties with African nations. By facilitating easier travel for diplomatic personnel, both Baku and Khartoum aim to foster closer political cooperation and enhance diplomatic communication channels between the two states.
