A proposal has been put forward in Azerbaijan to restrict or completely ban the sale of folding pocket knives. The initiative was voiced during a session of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) on Tuesday.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the proposal was made by Mushfiq Jafarov, a member of the parliamentary Committee on Youth and Sports, during today's committee meeting. The MP stated that these types of cutting tools are particularly popular among teenagers and young people, posing a significant risk to public order.

Jafarov noted that the increasing number of stabbing incidents among the youth in recent years has become a cause for serious concern. Observations and statistical data indicate that the majority of such crimes are committed using folding knives, which are easily carried in pockets and concealed. The MP emphasized that banning the sale and use of these items would be a strategic step toward ensuring public safety in Azerbaijan.

In Azerbaijan, the regulation of cold weapons is governed by strict legislation; however, folding knives often fall into a legal gray area depending on their dimensions and technical characteristics. The Milli Majlis (National Assembly) frequently reviews public safety laws to adapt to modern challenges and reduce crime rates among the younger generation. It is expected that relevant government agencies will evaluate this proposal in the near future to determine potential amendments to existing trade and safety regulations.
