Avropa Xarici Fəaliyyət Xidmətində böhran: "Hyuston, bizdə problem var"

A crisis is deepening within the European External Action Service (EEAS), the diplomatic arm of the European Union, as reports of internal dysfunction reach critical levels.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the organization is facing significant management challenges that threaten its operational effectiveness.

Nathalie Tocci, a former special advisor to the EEAS and currently a professor at Johns Hopkins University, has characterized the situation within the organization using the phrase, "Houston, we have a problem." She noted that, excluding the highest leadership levels, there are substantial gaps and inefficiencies in the institution's day-to-day operations.

Reports indicate that the internal morale within the organization has deteriorated significantly. This decline is reportedly exacerbated by an alleged power struggle between the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Sources suggest that the appointment of inexperienced individuals to leadership positions, allegations of nepotism, and the inefficient management of resources are fueling widespread dissatisfaction among staff. Furthermore, it is reported that approximately 8 percent of the organization's workforce is currently on leave due to stress and burnout.

The EEAS, established in 2011 following the Treaty of Lisbon, serves as the EU's diplomatic service, tasked with managing the bloc's foreign policy and security relations. Observers note that some diplomats have expressed concerns that Kaja Kallas's intense focus on Russia-related issues, combined with her rigorous management style, may be overshadowing other critical foreign policy priorities for the European Union.
