The Electric Networks of Armenia, currently owned by Samvel Karapetyan, head of the Tashir Group of Companies, is set to be transferred to concession management.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Armenian media, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the decision during a government meeting.
"We have made a decision at the conceptual level regarding the electric networks; this will be state property transferred to reliable management," Pashinyan stated.
Addressing broader economic policy, the Prime Minister noted that it is not appropriate for industrial enterprises, including the Araratcement plant, to remain under state ownership and management. "These enterprises should be privatized, but through transparent competitions. However, the state must retain a share package and a seat on the board of directors," he added.
The energy sector in Armenia has historically faced significant challenges, including aging infrastructure and financial instability. The move toward concession management is part of a broader effort by the Armenian government to modernize utility services, attract private investment, and improve operational efficiency within the country's critical energy grid.
