The European Union has issued an official statement regarding the results of the parliamentary elections held in Armenia on June 7.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing reports from Armenpress, the EU congratulated the citizens of Armenia for exercising their sovereign democratic rights during the parliamentary vote, noting the high level of voter turnout as a positive development.

The EU stated that the election demonstrated Armenia's commitment to democracy, peace, regional cooperation, and closer ties with Europe. Citing the preliminary assessment of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) election observation mission, the statement noted that while the campaign was highly polarized, the elections were inclusive, provided clear political alternatives, and were generally well-organized.

The EU further emphasized that the campaign and voting process took place against a backdrop of external interference, pressure, and various hybrid threats. Despite these challenges, the EU noted that the elections showcased Armenia's democratic resilience and progress in its reform agenda.

The EU acknowledged the preliminary results released by the Central Election Commission of Armenia, which indicate a victory for the Civil Contract Party led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. "We call on all political forces to respect the results of the vote and democratic procedures, and to resolve any grievances related to the elections through legal mechanisms," the statement emphasized.

The EU reaffirmed its readiness to continue supporting Armenia's democratic development, expressing its commitment to expanding cooperation with the government and parliament to implement reforms, promote regional peace, and strengthen economic ties.

The parliamentary elections in Armenia, held on June 7, resulted in the Civil Contract Party, the Strong Armenia bloc, and the Armenia bloc securing seats in parliament. According to preliminary results, the Civil Contract Party has secured a majority, granting it the mandate to form the government.

Context: The European Union has increasingly sought to deepen its engagement with the South Caucasus region, positioning itself as a key partner in promoting stability and democratic governance. These elections are viewed by international observers as a critical indicator of Armenia's political trajectory amidst complex regional dynamics and ongoing efforts to normalize relations with neighboring states.
