The Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) has issued a formal statement regarding the UEFA decision to revoke the participation rights of the football club "Turan Tovuz" in the UEFA Conference League.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the club's designated spot in European competitions will be maintained until a final ruling is delivered by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
In its official statement, AFFA noted: "Based on the decision of the UEFA Appeals Body dated June 2, 2026, the 'Turan Tovuz' club has the right to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the decision to deprive it of the right to participate in the 2026/2027 season of the UEFA Conference League."
The statement further clarified that until the CAS reaches a final verdict, the position secured by "Turan Tovuz"—earned by finishing 3rd in the national championship—will be preserved in accordance with sporting principles. Subsequent actions will be determined only after the CAS issues its final decision.
It should be noted that if the CAS ruling does not favor "Turan Tovuz," the club "Zira" will replace them to represent Azerbaijan in the 2026-2027 season of the UEFA Conference League. The UEFA Conference League serves as a crucial platform for Azerbaijani clubs to gain international experience and improve their UEFA coefficient rankings.
