Azerbaijan’s culture minister discusses cooperation with UNESCO

On June 16, in Paris, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Adil Karimli, held a meeting with the Assistant Director-General for Culture of UNESCO, Ernesto Ottone Ramirez. The discussion focused on strengthening bilateral ties and exploring new avenues for collaboration in the cultural sector.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the meeting covered key areas of cooperation, including the protection of cultural heritage, museum management, the development of creative industries, cultural diplomacy, and the implementation of international cultural projects. A significant portion of the dialogue was dedicated to the UNESCO SECURE project, examining its potential application for safeguarding cultural heritage and future prospects for joint initiatives.

Minister Adil Karimli provided an overview of Azerbaijan's cultural policy priorities, ongoing reforms, and the nation's proactive international partnership initiatives. The sides exchanged views on deepening cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO, implementing joint projects, expanding professional exchange programs, and promoting innovative international initiatives. Both parties emphasized the importance of developing cooperation in areas of mutual interest, highlighting the role of culture in sustainable development and the strengthening of international solidarity.

UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, plays a pivotal role in promoting international cooperation through educational, scientific, and cultural reforms. Azerbaijan has been an active member of UNESCO since 1992, consistently engaging in projects aimed at preserving historical monuments and promoting intercultural dialogue on a global scale.
