Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has formally appealed to the United Nations regarding the latest economic restrictions imposed by the United States against his country.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Araghchi addressed a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in which he characterized the economic restrictions implemented by Washington as an "illegal assault." He urged the international organization to take a decisive stance against these measures.
In his correspondence, Araghchi emphasized that the UN Security Council and other relevant bodies should not remain indifferent to the policy of economic pressure being pursued by the United States. According to the Iranian minister, these actions by Washington contradict international legal norms and possess the potential to destabilize the region.
Tehran is formally requesting that the matter be discussed at the UN level and is calling for appropriate measures to be taken against the restrictions imposed by the US. This diplomatic move reflects Iran's ongoing efforts to leverage international platforms to counter American sanctions, which have significantly impacted the Iranian economy for years. The UN, while often serving as a forum for such grievances, faces complex challenges in mediating disputes involving unilateral sanctions imposed by major powers like the United States.
