2026-cı il Dünya Çempionatı: Futbolun ən böyük turniri formatını dəyişir

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to enter football history as the most extensive tournament to date. For the first time, the competition will feature 48 teams and be hosted across three different countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. As preparations for the tournament continue, the implications of the expanded format and geographical scope for both players and fans have become a subject of intense discussion.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the expansion of the tournament from 32 to 48 teams has sparked significant debate. Some critics are concerned that this move could negatively impact the quality of the competition. However, Haya Obeydat, a football analyst and key coordinator for UEFA and FIFA in Azerbaijan, believes this change also promises new opportunities.

Obeydat notes that the inclusion of lesser-known nations alongside traditional football giants could lead to unexpected results:

“Of course, some teams may lag behind the traditional powerhouses, but this gives many countries a chance to showcase themselves. It is precisely these kinds of surprises that make the World Cup special.”

The scale of the tournament could create significant logistical challenges for the teams. Matches played across three countries and the vast distances involved will impact the physical condition of the players.

The analyst notes that factors such as changing time zones, sleep patterns, and jet lag could directly affect team performances. According to him, these minor details will play a decisive role in matches between evenly matched teams.

The vast geographical spread of the tournament will also impact fan expenses. Obeydat warns that not only ticket prices but also flights, hotels, and transportation costs could create significant financial difficulties for many fans. He emphasizes that while higher-budget fans will be able to watch the tournament in more comfortable conditions, others will need to plan their travel more cautiously.

In conclusion, the expert stated that the 2026 championship will be a turning point for the football world. While Germany, Portugal, Argentina, and France are currently cited as the main favorites, the tournament's new format creates conditions for unexpected results at any moment.
