Russia has announced that it will closely monitor the proceedings of the 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government currently being held in Ankara.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated in an interview with the RIA Novosti news agency that the NATO summit is of significant interest to Moscow. He emphasized that the Kremlin will carefully analyze all statements, decisions, and developments emerging from the event.
The Kremlin spokesperson noted that numerous statements regarding Russia were made during the preparations for the summit. According to Peskov, Moscow views the majority of these declarations as confrontational in nature.
The NATO summit in Ankara serves as a critical platform for addressing global security challenges, particularly in light of ongoing geopolitical tensions. The alliance, founded in 1949, remains the primary transatlantic security organization, and its summits are pivotal for setting strategic policy. It is expected that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President Donald Trump will hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the summit. Reports indicate that a primary topic of discussion between the two leaders will be the Russia-Ukraine war and the prospects for resuming peace negotiations.
