The Main State Traffic Police Department (BDYPİ) has issued a warning to drivers in Azerbaijan, urging them to exercise increased caution between July 25 and 29 due to expected hot weather conditions. Motorists are advised to prioritize their health and ensure their vehicles are in proper technical condition before traveling.
According to the "Operativ Məlumat Mərkəzi-OMM", the Department emphasized that high temperatures can significantly impact driving performance. Elevated heat may lead to reduced attention spans, increased fatigue, slower reaction times, and sudden health complications for drivers.
"This increases the risk of road traffic accidents," the Department stated. "The Main State Traffic Police Department strongly advises elderly drivers and those suffering from cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, or other chronic conditions to avoid unnecessary travel during the hottest hours of the day. Other drivers are urged to check the technical condition of their vehicles—specifically cooling and braking systems, tire pressure, and air conditioning—before departure. During long trips, drivers should take regular breaks and immediately stop if they experience weakness, dizziness, drowsiness, or any other discomfort."
The authorities also highlighted the importance of adhering to speed limits, avoiding risky maneuvers, and ensuring that young children are never left unattended in vehicles. Furthermore, drivers are advised to ventilate vehicles that have been parked in direct sunlight before beginning their journey.
The BDYPİ concluded by calling on all road users to plan their trips during cooler hours whenever possible, strictly follow traffic regulations, and refrain from behaviors that could endanger their own lives or the safety of other road participants. Such safety measures are part of broader efforts by the Ministry of Internal Affairs to ensure public safety during extreme weather events in Azerbaijan, which frequently experience intense summer heatwaves.
