The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the seismic activity, centered on the island of Mindanao, has caused significant structural damage to schools, hospitals, and residential buildings. Authorities have also issued warnings regarding a tsunami, with waves reaching up to one meter in height observed along nearby coastlines.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos has ordered the suspension of classes in affected areas of Mindanao to ensure public safety.
