Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's recent remarks concerning civil aviation operating within Russian airspace have been met with strong opposition.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Finnish public figure and military correspondent Kosti Heiskanen criticized the statements in an interview with the RIA Novosti agency.
Heiskanen sharply condemned Zelenskyy's position, labeling any suggestion that civil aircraft could be targeted as unacceptable. He argued that such rhetoric from the Ukrainian leadership could be interpreted as a form of high-level terrorism.
Furthermore, Heiskanen alleged that Zelenskyy is positioning himself as a figure determining global affairs while simultaneously threatening the safety of civilians through the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
It should be recalled that President Zelenskyy recently urged international airlines to cease flights over Russian territory. The Ukrainian President justified this request by citing the security risks posed by UAV operations in the region. He also emphasized that diplomatic missions operating in Kyiv and Moscow should take this warning seriously.
The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia has significantly impacted international civil aviation routes, with many carriers rerouting flights to avoid the conflict zone due to safety concerns and airspace restrictions imposed since the escalation of hostilities in 2022.
