Citizens of Japan and the Republic of Korea holding ordinary passports are now exempt from visa requirements for tourism purposes when entering Azerbaijan. This policy is effective from July 1, 2026, through July 1, 2027.

This information was confirmed to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

According to official statements, the visa waiver is designed to facilitate travel, strengthen bilateral cooperation, and promote tourism development between Azerbaijan and these nations. Under the new regulations, citizens of Japan and South Korea may enter Azerbaijan up to three times during the specified period, with each stay permitted for up to 30 days.

It is important to note that this visa-free regime applies strictly to tourism. Citizens of these countries intending to enter Azerbaijan for other purposes, such as employment, education, or long-term residency, must obtain the appropriate visa in accordance with the existing legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan has been actively expanding its tourism sector and strengthening diplomatic ties with East Asian nations. By simplifying entry procedures, the country aims to increase the influx of international visitors, showcasing its rich cultural heritage, historical sites, and modern infrastructure to a broader global audience.
