The Azerbaijani city of Khankendi and the Romanian city of Baia Mare are set to become sister cities, strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the agreement was reached during a meeting in Romania between Elchin Yusubov, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Khankendi, Aghdara, and Khojaly districts, and the Mayor of Baia Mare, Ioan Doru Dăncuș.
During the meeting, the officials discussed the establishment and development of relations between Khankendi and Baia Mare, the implementation of joint projects, the exchange of experience, and other mutually beneficial areas of cooperation.
This initiative serves as a significant step in expanding local-level diplomacy between Azerbaijan and Romania. Sister city agreements are designed to foster cultural, economic, and educational exchanges, allowing municipalities to share best practices in urban development and governance. As Khankendi continues its restoration and development efforts, such international partnerships are expected to enhance the city's integration into global municipal networks.
