Officers of the Shirvan City Police Department have detained two individuals, Shahriyar Aslanli and Salman Hasanov, on suspicion of illegally cultivating narcotic plants. During the operation, law enforcement officers discovered 52 hemp bushes that had been grown using specific agrotechnical methods.
According to information provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the suspects admitted to planting the hemp bushes last month and providing them with systematic care. A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident, and both individuals have been remanded in custody by a court decision as the investigation continues.
Azerbaijan continues to implement a rigorous national strategy to combat the illegal turnover of narcotics and the cultivation of prohibited plants. The Ministry of Internal Affairs regularly conducts comprehensive operational measures across the country, particularly in regional centers like Shirvan, to prevent the spread of drug addiction and dismantle local production sites. Under Azerbaijani law, the illegal cultivation of plants containing narcotic substances carries significant criminal penalties as part of the state's broader public safety and health initiatives.
