A significant quantity of narcotic substances has been discovered in a cornfield in the Balakan district of Azerbaijan.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs provided this information to the Operative Information Center-OMM.
According to the official statement, 52-year-old Elman Balagozov, who had a prior conviction for similar offenses, was detained on suspicion of cultivating drug-containing plants.
During the operation, authorities discovered 185 cannabis plants cultivated in a cornfield on his property, as well as 21 kilograms of processed narcotic substances. A criminal case has been initiated, and the court has ordered a pre-trial detention measure for Balagozov.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs regularly conducts such operations across Azerbaijan to combat the illegal cultivation and distribution of narcotics. These efforts are part of a broader national strategy to ensure public safety and enforce strict anti-drug legislation, which carries severe penalties for the cultivation and trafficking of illicit substances.
