Military operations carried out by the United States against Iran have diverted the European Union's (EU) attention from the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the influential Politico publication reported that the shift in geopolitical focus is creating new challenges for Kyiv's support structure.
Politico notes that last week, the EU was actively discussing ways to bypass Hungary's veto on a 90-billion-euro loan package intended for Ukraine. However, the bloc's primary focus has now shifted toward the military actions taken by the administration of US President Donald Trump against Iran. Experts suggest that as a result of this change in the EU agenda, Ukraine is expected to face a serious financial shortfall by the end of March.
The German newspaper Berliner Zeitung has also shared similar information, citing its own sources. The report indicates that amid the escalation of conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran, fears and anxieties are growing within the Ukrainian leadership regarding a potential cessation of aid. This development comes at a critical time for the European Union, which has historically struggled to balance multiple foreign policy crises simultaneously, often leading to delays in long-term financial commitments to Eastern European partners.
