European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is scheduled to visit Azerbaijan on July 1. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the "AnewZ" television channel, the visit follows the European Commission President's trip to Armenia and marks her first visit to Azerbaijan since July 2022.
During the upcoming visit, discussions are expected to focus on the current state and future prospects of relations between the European Union and Azerbaijan, energy cooperation, and broader regional processes.
The regional visit, which takes place against the backdrop of Brussels' efforts to strengthen transport, energy, and digital connectivity in the South Caucasus, will see Ursula von der Leyen accompanied by Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement.
The European Union and Azerbaijan have established a strategic energy partnership, particularly following the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding on a Strategic Partnership in the Field of Energy. This agreement aims to double the supply of natural gas from Azerbaijan to the EU, positioning the country as a critical partner in Europe's efforts to diversify its energy sources and enhance energy security.
