The United Kingdom has significantly expanded its sanctions regime against Russia, adding 240 companies, 50 vessels, and seven individuals to its restricted list. Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing international media outlets, that the move represents a major escalation in London's efforts to pressure the Kremlin.
According to official statements, the new package of sanctions was adopted to mark the fourth anniversary of the ongoing military operations in Ukraine. The expanded list specifically targets entities and individuals supporting the Russian energy sector, vessels involved in the transport of Russian oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) to third countries, and various organizations linked to the Russian financial and defense industries.
In a notable expansion of the scope of these measures, the Georgian television channels "Imedi" and "Post TV" have also been added to the sanctions list. British authorities cited their alleged role in the dissemination of Russian disinformation as the primary reason for their inclusion. This latest round of restrictions underscores the UK's commitment to degrading Russia's economic capabilities and countering its influence operations globally. Since the beginning of the conflict, the UK has sanctioned over 2,000 individuals and entities, freezing billions of dollars in assets and disrupting supply chains vital to the Russian military-industrial complex.
