"President Ilham Aliyev's views expressed in Davos clearly and factorially demonstrate Azerbaijan's position in the modern system of international relations," Member of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) Vasif Gafarov told Operative Information Center-OMM. The MP was commenting on President Ilham Aliyev's interview with Euronews television in Davos and the head of state being awarded the "Zayed Award for Human Fraternity."
According to the lawmaker, at a time when international law is applied selectively and the "rule of law" is increasingly replaced by the "rule of force," Azerbaijan's pursuit of a policy based on national interests and full compliance with international law is an indicator of the country's strategic vision. Gafarov emphasized that the restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity is the direct result of this consistent and principled policy. "This fact once again confirms that Azerbaijan has made the right strategic choice by relying on its own strength and potential against the backdrop of new geopolitical realities," the MP noted.
The MP also characterized the presentation of the "Zayed Award for Human Fraternity" to President Ilham Aliyev as a high international assessment of Azerbaijan's efforts toward peace and cooperation in the region. He noted that the formation of a peaceful environment in the South Caucasus after more than thirty years of conflict is a historic event. The transition from confrontation to cooperation between Azerbaijan and Armenia, along with the removal of restrictions in the transport and energy sectors, serves to strengthen regional stability.
Furthermore, Gafarov stated that Azerbaijan's export of natural gas to dozens of countries, including 10 European Union member states, ensures its vital place on the global energy map. The increasing energy cooperation with Europe is a clear example of international trust in Azerbaijan. The World Economic Forum in Davos serves as a critical platform for Azerbaijan to articulate its economic priorities and security concerns to a global audience, while the Zayed Award highlights the nation's commitment to multiculturalism and humanitarian values.
