Chinese President Xi Jinping has promised to provide flower seeds for the White House garden following a request from US President Donald Trump.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that US President Donald Trump shared these details during an interview with Sky News regarding his recent diplomatic engagements.
The President noted that the request was made during a walk through the Zhongnanhai government complex gardens in Beijing. "These are the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen. I asked the Chairman, 'Could you send me some for the White House Rose Garden?' and he agreed. I have never seen such beautiful flowers," Trump stated.
The exchange is being viewed by diplomatic observers as a symbolic gesture aimed at easing tensions between the world's two largest economies. The Zhongnanhai complex, located adjacent to the Forbidden City, serves as the central headquarters for the Communist Party of China and the State Council. Historically, such "garden diplomacy" has been used to signal a thaw in bilateral relations, providing a softer backdrop to rigorous geopolitical negotiations.
This visit, which began on May 13, marks the first time US President Donald Trump has visited China in nearly nine years. The discussions between the two leaders covered both personal and high-level diplomatic topics, with the seed gesture serving as a potential sign of a softening in the complex relationship between Washington and Beijing. The visit is seen as a pivotal moment in international relations since the President assumed office in January 2025.
