US President Donald Trump has announced that the scale of joint military exercises with South Korea will be significantly reduced. The decision marks a notable shift in the strategic military cooperation between the two long-standing allies.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Trump stated in a post on the "Truth Social" platform that one of the primary reasons for this decision was Seoul's refusal to support the United States in its efforts to neutralize Iran's nuclear program. The US leader emphasized that these joint military exercises require substantial financial resources, with Washington currently covering the majority of the costs. He characterized South Korea's position as an "inappropriate and hostile signal."

President Trump noted that while it is no longer feasible to cancel the annual exercises entirely due to the proximity of their scheduled start date, he has issued a direct order to scale them back. He recounted asking the South Korean president whether Seoul would join the US on the issue of Iran's nuclear program, only to receive a negative response. Despite these developments, officials in Seoul have indicated that the planned joint military exercises will proceed according to the pre-established schedule. Meanwhile, Pyongyang has yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.

Joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea have historically been a cornerstone of regional security, aimed at deterring potential threats on the Korean Peninsula. These drills, which often involve thousands of troops and advanced military hardware, have frequently drawn criticism from North Korea, which views them as provocative rehearsals for invasion.
