Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is facing an increasing number of serious legal allegations regarding sexual offenses.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Sky Sports, reports that the 32-year-old Ghanaian international, who currently plays for Spanish side Villarreal, has been charged with two additional counts of rape.
The Ghanaian footballer is scheduled to appear before the Westminster Magistrates Court on March 13 in connection with an incident alleged to have occurred in 2020. Law enforcement authorities were reportedly notified of this specific criminal fact in August of last year.
However, this is not the first set of allegations brought against Partey. He previously appeared at Southwark Crown Court in September, where he denied five counts of rape involving two different women and one count of sexual assault against a third woman.
According to court documents, these alleged incidents took place between 2021 and 2022, during the period the footballer was playing for London-based club Arsenal. Partey, who transferred from Atletico Madrid in 2020 for a fee of £45 million, departed the English club in June last year.
The legal fate of the midfielder, who has earned over 50 caps for the Ghana national team and participated in major tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations, will be determined in the coming months. Currently continuing his career in La Liga, the footballer's main trial is expected to commence on November 2.
The legal proceedings come at a time of heightened scrutiny regarding the conduct of professional athletes in the United Kingdom. British judicial authorities have intensified their focus on high-profile sexual assault cases, ensuring that all allegations are thoroughly investigated regardless of the individual's public status. The outcome of these hearings could have significant implications for the player's professional career in international football.
