The Iranian Ministry of Health has reported that the 100-year-old Pasteur Institute in Tehran was targeted in a recent attack, attributing the incident to the United States and Israel.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the statement was released by Hossein Kermanpour, the spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Health, via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Kermanpour stated: "The attack on the Pasteur Institute of Iran, a century-old global health center and a member of the International Pasteur Network, is a direct assault on international health security. This violation contravenes the Geneva Conventions and the principles of international humanitarian law. We call upon the World Health Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and international health organizations to condemn this attack, assess the damage, and assist in restoration efforts."
The Pasteur Institute of Iran, established in 1920, is one of the oldest and most significant biomedical research and production facilities in the Middle East. As a member of the prestigious International Pasteur Network, it plays a critical role in regional public health, specializing in vaccine production, diagnostic services, and the study of infectious diseases. Attacks on medical and scientific infrastructure are strictly prohibited under international law, which mandates the protection of civilian health facilities during periods of conflict.
