A massive sinkhole has opened up on a road in Shanghai, China, causing vehicles and equipment to fall into the depths.

Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media, reports that the incident was recorded in the city's Minhang district.

The road collapse occurred during the construction of a metro station in the area. As a result, cars and various facilities installed by workers at the site plunged into the crater. Preliminary investigations suggest that the collapse was triggered by a significant water leakage at the construction site. No deaths or injuries were reported following the incident.

Shanghai, one of the world's most populous cities and a global financial hub, has been rapidly expanding its underground transit network to accommodate its growing population. The Minhang district, located in the southwestern part of the city, is a key residential and industrial zone where several infrastructure projects are currently underway. Such incidents often highlight the technical challenges and geological risks associated with large-scale urban excavation and tunneling in densely populated metropolitan areas.
