China has recorded a record number of passenger trips across the country on the final day of the Spring Festival holiday.

Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media, reports that the number of inter-regional travelers reached 362.58 million on Monday.

While this figure represents a 4.7 percent decrease compared to the previous day, it marks an 11.9 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. According to official data, 18.5 million passengers were transported on Monday alone, reflecting an 8.6 percent year-on-year growth. The vast majority of trips were made via road networks, totaling 339.83 million journeys, of which 304.62 million were conducted using private vehicles.

The Spring Festival, also known as the Lunar New Year, is the most significant traditional holiday in China, characterized by the world's largest annual human migration, known as "Chunyun." This mass migration period is expected to continue until March 13. This year, the festival officially spanned from February 15 to February 23, coinciding with the start of the Year of the Wood Snake (notably referred to in local contexts as the transition into the new zodiac cycle).

In addition to road travel, other sectors saw significant growth. Waterway passenger numbers rose by 31.2 percent year-on-year to 1.6 million people. Civil aviation also experienced a surge, with 2.65 million passengers traveling by air, a 6.9 percent increase compared to the same day last year. These figures underscore the massive scale of domestic mobility in China as citizens return to urban centers following the week-long national celebrations.
