President Ilham Aliyev addressed the current state of relations between Azerbaijan, the European Commission, and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) during the opening of the IV Shusha Global Media Forum.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of state emphasized a stark contrast in the nature of these relationships. "When it comes to relations with the European Commission and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, there is a very big difference between them. Our relations with the European Commission have been varied. During the period when Mr. Borrell led European diplomacy, our relations, the ties between the European Commission and Azerbaijan, almost completely went into an abyss," President Ilham Aliyev stated.
The European Union and Azerbaijan have historically maintained a complex partnership, largely centered on energy security and strategic cooperation. However, recent years have seen diplomatic friction, particularly regarding the EU's mediation efforts in the South Caucasus and the perceived bias of certain European institutions. The Shusha Global Media Forum serves as a significant platform for discussing these geopolitical shifts, bringing together international journalists and experts to analyze the evolving landscape of regional and global media and politics.
