President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived in the Republic of Kazakhstan on May 15 for a working visit at the invitation of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to attend the informal Summit of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that a guard of honor was lined up in honor of the head of state at the Hazrat Sultan International Airport in Turkistan. President Ilham Aliyev was welcomed by Kazakhstan's State Counselor Erlan Karin, Akim of the Turkistan region Nuralkhan Kusherov, and other high-ranking officials.
The visit underscores the deepening strategic partnership between Baku and Astana, focusing on regional security, transport logistics, and energy cooperation. During the summit, leaders are expected to discuss the further integration of Turkic-speaking nations and the development of the Middle Corridor, a vital trade route connecting Asia and Europe through Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
The Organization of Turkic States, formerly known as the Turkic Council, serves as an intergovernmental organization aimed at promoting comprehensive cooperation among Turkic-speaking countries.
