The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baghaei, has issued a positive assessment of the Iranian national football team's performance at the 2026 World Cup.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Baghaei shared his remarks via the social media platform X. He praised the players for their resilience, noting that they demonstrated strong determination on the pitch despite facing various external pressures.
Baghaei emphasized that the team refused to surrender despite encountering significant difficulties, including allegations of discrimination and various restrictions. In his statement, he remarked, "Limitations did not become excuses, and pressures did not lead to surrender," highlighting the team's commitment to competing until the final whistle.
Reports from Press TV indicate that Iran's participation in the tournament was complicated by political tensions and logistical hurdles. Due to US visa restrictions, the team was reportedly forced to relocate its training base from Arizona to Tijuana, Mexico. Furthermore, visa regulations mandated that Iranian players and technical staff could only enter the US one day before matches and were required to depart immediately afterward, a situation that prompted an official complaint from the Iranian side to FIFA.
Despite the logistical challenges, Baghaei underscored the emotional impact of the team's performance on the nation. "Regardless of the results, they provided us with passion, excitement, and hope. Most importantly, they reminded us once again of the value of our homeland, Iran," he stated.
