The first electric model from Italian luxury automaker Ferrari, the special "Chassis 0" version of the "Luce," has been sold for a record price at a charity auction held during the "Monterey Car Week" in California, USA.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing data from the "RM Sotheby’s" auction house, the vehicle was initially valued at $1.1 million but ultimately sold for $40 million. This final bid is approximately 36 times higher than the initial valuation.
The "Luce" model, which means "light" in Italian, garnered significant attention for its design when it was first unveiled in May. Featuring a more rounded aesthetic compared to Ferrari's traditional sharp lines, the vehicle received mixed reactions from some automotive enthusiasts. Following the model's initial presentation, the company's shares on the Milan Stock Exchange experienced a decline of over 8 percent.
From a technical standpoint, the "Chassis 0" stands out with its high-performance specifications. The vehicle is equipped with an individual electric motor for each wheel. The body is finished with a special pearlescent coating that shifts from green to purple depending on the light, while the interior features "Perla Le Mans" metallic leather.
According to a statement from "Ferrari USA," all proceeds from the charity auction will be donated to the "Ferrari" Foundation to support educational initiatives. The vehicle is scheduled to be delivered to its new owner in the first quarter of 2027, following the completion of production at the factory in Maranello. Standard "Luce" models are expected to go on sale with an initial price of 550,000 euros, with the first deliveries anticipated by late 2026.
Monterey Car Week is a globally recognized automotive event that brings together collectors, manufacturers, and enthusiasts, often serving as a venue for high-profile vehicle debuts and significant charitable fundraising efforts within the luxury automotive sector.
