Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin have held discussions regarding the concession management of the South Caucasus Railway company. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Armenian media, the Prime Minister shared details of the meeting during a press briefing today.
"We had a detailed conversation where we presented our positions and perspectives, while also listening to the views of our Russian partners," Nikol Pashinyan stated. He emphasized that there are no fundamental problems with Russia, noting that Armenia highly values its friendly relations and has no intention of harming Russian interests. The Prime Minister added that both parties have agreed to continue their dialogue on the matter.
The discussions follow recent comments from Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, who told TASS that there are no objective reasons for the concession of the South Caucasus Railway to be transferred or sold to a third party. The South Caucasus Railway, a 100% subsidiary of Russian Railways, has operated Armenia's rail system under a concession agreement since 2008. This infrastructure remains a key element of regional transport dynamics in the South Caucasus, particularly as discussions continue regarding the reopening of regional transport links following the 44-day war and subsequent peace negotiations in the region.
