Customs officers at the Astara Customs Office of the State Customs Committee have successfully intercepted a significant attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics into the country, Operative Information Center-OMM reports.

According to official information provided to Operative Information Center-OMM, a vehicle transporting a cargo of cabbage was subjected to a thorough inspection at the "Astara" customs post. The discovery was made using a stationary X-ray scanner and a specially trained detector dog from the canine service. During the search, officers found narcotics meticulously concealed within the shipment, disguised to resemble the shape of cabbages to evade customs control.

The seized substances included 43 kilograms and 565 grams of hashish and 58 kilograms and 955 grams of hashish resin, bringing the total weight of the confiscated drugs to over 102 kilograms. An investigation into the smuggling attempt is currently underway by the relevant authorities in Azerbaijan.

The Astara border crossing, located on Azerbaijan's southern border with Iran, remains a critical point for the State Customs Committee in its ongoing efforts to combat international drug trafficking. Azerbaijan continues to strengthen its border security infrastructure and technical capabilities to prevent the transit of illegal substances along the "Balkan route," which connects Asia to European markets. The State Customs Committee frequently reports such seizures as part of the national strategy to ensure regional security and public health.
