Azerbaijani border guards have successfully prevented an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics into the country using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from Iran. The operation was part of ongoing measures to ensure reliable protection of the state border and combat the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the press center of the State Border Service reported that the incident occurred on January 18 within the service area of the "Horadiz" border detachment of the Border Troops Command. As a result of joint complex operational-search measures conducted by the State Border Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the UAV that illegally entered Azerbaijan's airspace was timely detected and neutralized.
During the inspection of the scene, 6 kilograms and 600 grams of marijuana were discovered and seized. Operational and investigative measures are currently ongoing to identify the individuals involved in the smuggling attempt. Azerbaijan continues to strengthen its border security infrastructure, particularly along the southern borders, to combat transnational organized crime and drug trafficking routes.
