President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and his Kyrgyz counterpart Sadyr Japarov discussed the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway during a meeting held on the sidelines of the informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Turkistan.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the sides deliberated on further strengthening the friendship, good-neighborliness, and comprehensive strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. The leaders highlighted the dynamic growth in mutual trade and the progress of cooperation projects in industry, agriculture, water management, and other priority sectors.
Furthermore, the parties addressed the practical implementation of agreements reached at the highest level, including measures to accelerate large-scale regional projects in energy and transport. Special attention was given to the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, which is considered a vital link for regional logistics. Mirziyoyev and Japarov also exchanged views on key aspects of the regional agenda and reviewed the schedule for upcoming high-level events.
The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan (CKU) railway project is expected to provide a more direct route for goods traveling between East Asia and Europe, potentially reducing travel time by several days. This initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Organization of Turkic States to foster economic integration and enhance the transit-transport potential of member states. Such projects are of significant interest to the region, including Azerbaijan, as they complement the development of the Middle Corridor, strengthening connectivity between Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
