The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baghaei, has stated that the current ceasefire in Lebanon is an integral component of a broader, final agreement aimed at ending the ongoing regional conflict.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that foreign media outlets have highlighted these remarks, with Baghaei asserting that the United States remains the primary actor driving the events unfolding in Lebanon.
According to the Iranian official, Israel continues to conduct military operations in Lebanon and occupied Palestinian territories despite the existence of a ceasefire. "The ceasefire in Lebanon is an inseparable part of a final agreement that will end the war. However, the Zionist regime continues to commit the most severe and brutal crimes in Lebanon and occupied Palestinian lands, despite the superficial ceasefire," Baghaei emphasized.
Addressing the diplomatic engagement with Washington, Baghaei noted that ongoing talks do not imply the existence of mutual trust between the parties. He stated that discussions with the US began under a climate of mutual suspicion and skepticism. The Iranian official further criticized the US for issuing contradictory statements and media messages, which he argued have unnecessarily prolonged the negotiation process.
Regarding the broader geopolitical context, Baghaei claimed that nuclear issues are not currently on the agenda. He added that Tehran remains prepared to take necessary actions in that sphere should the situation require it. The ongoing conflict in Lebanon, which has seen significant escalation involving Israel and Hezbollah, remains a focal point of regional instability, with international mediators continuing efforts to secure a lasting cessation of hostilities.
