Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok has officially rejected an ultimatum from opposition figure Peter Magyar demanding his resignation by May 31. The head of state emphasized that there are no legal or constitutional grounds for him to vacate his office prematurely.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media reports, President Sulyok affirmed his commitment to serving his full term. "I have sworn an oath to remain faithful to the basic law and the constitutional order. This binds me not only to a political majority or minority but to the entire nation," the President stated. He further noted that while there are social and political efforts aimed at limiting presidential powers, his resignation remains legally unfounded.

The political tension follows calls from Peter Magyar, who had urged the President to step down voluntarily by the end of May. In Hungary, the president's role is largely ceremonial, acting as the guardian of the state's democratic functioning and commander-in-chief of the armed forces. Tamas Sulyok, a former head of the Constitutional Court, assumed office earlier this year following the resignation of his predecessor, Katalin Novak, amid a high-profile political controversy. The current administration maintains that the stability of the constitutional order is paramount during this period of political transition.
