Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has sent a congratulatory letter to President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of Azerbaijan's Independence Day.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the letter reads:

"Your Excellency, my dear colleague. On behalf of the Georgian people and on my own behalf, I sincerely congratulate you and the friendly people of Azerbaijan on the occasion of your country's Independence Day and convey my best wishes.

The current strategic partnership between our countries is a logical continuation of our historical ties. Your highly productive state visit to Georgia gave impetus to the development of relations between the two countries, raising ties to a new level. I believe that the cooperation based on friendly neighborly relations and a strong strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan, as well as the strategic projects we jointly implement, will not only improve the well-being of our peoples but also further strengthen peace, tranquility, and stability in our countries and the region."

Azerbaijan and Georgia share deep historical, economic, and strategic ties, cooperating closely on major regional energy and transport initiatives, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and the Southern Gas Corridor. Azerbaijan celebrates Independence Day on May 28, marking the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918, the first secular democratic republic in the Muslim world.
