The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have issued an urgent evacuation order for 16 communities in southern Lebanon ahead of planned airstrikes targeting Hezbollah infrastructure. The directive comes amid escalating tensions and reports of renewed hostilities in the border region.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media reports, IDF spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated that the military is compelled to use force due to Hezbollah's violations of the existing ceasefire agreement. The warning specifically targets areas south of the Litani River, where a general evacuation notice remains in effect. Residents have been advised to relocate to the Sidon coastal region, situated north of the Litani River. Adraee emphasized that individuals remaining in close proximity to Hezbollah facilities are placing their lives at significant risk.
The situation in southern Lebanon remains volatile following the recent cessation of hostilities agreement. The Litani River has historically served as a strategic boundary in regional conflicts, particularly concerning the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which seeks to maintain a demilitarized zone between the river and the Blue Line. These latest evacuation orders underscore the fragility of the current truce and the ongoing military readiness of the IDF to respond to perceived threats along Israel's northern border.
